We lose 22 “Vets” to suicide every single day in the United States. It’s heart breaking! We all have deep responsibility to do everything possible to understand, to demonstrate both individually and collectively a sincerity of gratitude to them! As for me, the Draft ended 2 months and 3 days before my 18th birthday. That especially gives me a tremendous debt to repay!
By County, we have the highest number of Veterans per capita in Oregon. Here are just a few reasons that give us healthy cultural benefits; these people have already served once. They don’t want a ‘pat on the head’; they simply want to hear one word … Thanks! If we in turn serve them, support them, even challenge them — many would be able to serve a second ‘tour’ of sorts here in this special place we call home.
“Vets” are needed now more than ever. They can contribute so much to our Communities. Their knowledge is invaluable, especially with opportunities to mentor our young Men and Women and they could be a big asset for local Law Enforcement. Veterans have immeasurable and diversified talents that we should not overlook.
Let’s work to see that Curry County leads Oregon in innovative Veteran ideas and solutions.
